Houghton Fire and Watchtower

This photo is from the February 10, 1951 Houghten Lumber and Grain Co Fire.

The watchmen's tower showin in this photograph was built in September 1911. There was also a tower put between the Lansing and Ottawa Streets at the same time, along with crossing gates at both locations. At this date, 1951, the towers were no longer in use due to automatic signals. The tower at Clinton Ave, was still being used to house signal equipment.
